HOMEPAGE |
Newsletter of the Honeywell
Retiree Social Club of
Arizona
NOTE:
This online version is a
reformatted sub-set of the full version sent to paid-up members, with
possible updates to event information since the Bridge was distributed.
For example, it does not contain names of recent
retirees, new members, or members who have passed away, nor does it
contain the list of member email addresses which is sent out from time
to time. The full December edition of
the Bridge included a list of email
addresses for HRSC members.
Finally, there will typically be a delay of up
to a week before a new month's version is posted here; if you want to
get
the Bridge as it comes off the press, become a member
and request the full-color PDF version, the eBridge, which is sent by
email. Note that the black-and-white
paper Bridge is sent out by Honeywell, who outsource the task. It is
typically delivered about two weeks after the PDF eBridge is delivered
by email.

President's
Perspective
Happy New Year to
all HRSC members and a wonderful 2016 to you. We have lots of events
planned for you this coming year.
The Sperry/Honeywell retiree club's
Christmas Dinner/Dance
was a fun evening filled with glitz, glamour and good food. You'll find
pictures of the event below. We hope that you will plan on attending
next year’s event.
Day at the Races - don't miss this
fun filled event. Last year 50+ members were treated to a terrific day
of racing, mingling and great food.
Reservation deadline is February
10th.
The Annual Spring Pot Luck
will be held in March, make sure you don't miss this one. With the
Arizona weather this past year and forecasts of the worst El Niño in
years, who knows what Mother Nature will bring, but for sure we will
have Ice Breakers, 50/25/25 and awesome food provided by the members
and the Board.
We are
always looking for new Board Members
and currently have several positions to fill. We will be having a
phone-a-thon for new board members starting in January, but if you're
interested don't wait, please call one of the existing board members, positions open now.
Thank
you for being a loyal member of the Honeywell Retiree Social Club of
Arizona HRSC.

SCHOLARSHIP
PROGRAM UPDATES
The
Scholarship Foundation Board is very excited about the upcoming year.
They have worked hard to make the application process easier than ever.
So don’t forget, if you are a parent or grandparent with a student
attending one of the three State Universities, the Honeywell Retiree
Clubs Scholarship Foundation opened applications for the 2016-2017
Scholarship year on December 1, 2015.
As in the past, students attending Arizona State University (ASU),
Northern Arizona University (NAU) or University of Arizona (UofA) may
apply for this Scholarship through their school’s scholarship network.
Additionally, this year, students may also choose to apply through our
own website (www.hrcaz.org). See the Scholarship page for complete
information on the Scholarship - including the application,
instructions, and requirements. You can also contact any of the
Foundation Board members for additional help.
The Scholarship Program has helped many students in the past few years,
and although the money is greatly appreciated by each of the students -
it doesn’t go as far as it used to. The cost of attending a University
continues to increase. According to a report from the Center on Budget
and Policy Priorities, tuition has skyrocketed at public universities
across the country, but increased the most in Arizona. Tuition in
Arizona has risen 83.6 percent, or $4,734 per student between 2008 and
2015.
You can help our students by making a donation, large or small. Every
dollar counts, so please consider donating to this worthy program.
Remember, a donation to our Scholarship fund is tax deductible.
If you would like to make a contribution, you can send a check payable
to Honeywell Retiree Scholarship, in care of our Treasurer, Gwen
Scheetz, or contact any of our Board members.
Thanks for all of the donations received so far—your dollars make a
difference.

Clubs Scholarship Foundation Board:
MEET RACHAEL DAVEY
A 2015 SCHOLARSHIP
WINNER FROM
UofA
Rachael
Davey is a nineteen year old sophomore who attends the University of
Arizona and belongs to the Sigma Kappa sorority. She is majoring in
Special Education and Rehabilitation, and wants to work with special
needs children.
Rachael’s desire to work with special needs children is in part because
of the relationship with her cousin Connor, who has Down syndrome. This
eagerness continued while working a summer job at Kumon, and helping
Autistic children with simple math equations.
Rachael grew up playing all sorts of sports in the Phoenix area. The
passion she had while playing volleyball made her excel on several
different travel teams, as well as making the varsity volleyball team
as a freshman in high school.
Plans for the future…Rachael is on schedule to graduate May of 2018,
and has a potential offer for an internship this winter working with
special needs kids at New Way Academy. Once she has graduated, she
plans on applying to an Occupational Therapy school somewhere in
California.
Congratulations Rachael!

Best Little Whorehouse in Texas
Thursday, May 5
It’s the late
1970s and the happy-go-lucky town of Gilbert, Texas has just been put
on the map when a crusading television reporter aims his camera at a
favorite, local “destination” - The Chicken Ranch.
Frequented by governors, senators, mayors and even victorious college
football teams for more than a century, the town is now faced with
recounting the good times as they struggle with the demise of their
best pleasure palace. Made famous by Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton, The Best
Little Whore-house In Texas is a charming, lively and genial
show that will leave you laughing for days with songs like “Girl,
You’re A Woman” “Twenty Four Hours of Lovin” and “No Lies.”
