President's Perspective

We had 58 fabulous members and guests attend our combined Spring Picnic/Annual Meeting. This year we had the most food ever and every bit of it was delicious. Thank You all for making this a success. The prizes were an added bonus which everyone seemed to enjoy. Special Thanks to Pat and Judy along with Pat’s husband Darrell. They set up and coordinated the whole event.

The new board takes over on May 1st. Please support them in all of our activities. The bylaws changes were passed and these changes will allow the club to be more responsive to member needs, and opens up some criteria for becoming a member of HRC.

We are in the planning stages for next year’s activities. We think that we are going to have the best possible and most interesting things for all of us to do together. However, the board realizes that we might miss a golden opportunity that only you can think of. So please offer any suggestion on programs as well as any other aspect of club operations to any board member. Any suggestions will be considered by the board and the board will get back to you with the outcome of our discussions.

Shirley and Barbara are coordinating our Christmas party. We have changed locations to Sun City and kept the price the same as last year.

A special thanks to Shirley Krieger for her long service on the board. She has been invaluable to all of our members and another thank you to Barbara Rippstein for her efforts on the cruises and volunteering to assist any board member with their programs.

As this is my last opportunity to address all of you, I want to thank everyone for their support and patience with me. My two years as president have been very fulfilling and rewarding. I will continue on as the past president next year and then ride off into the sunset.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Fix it Guys

Sponsored by the Honeywell & Sperry Retiree Clubs

We can help Honeywell retirees or surviving spouses with fix-it jobs around the house that you are not good at or are unable to do and prevent these jobs from becoming budget busters. Call us at this number, (602) 765-4466, and leave a clear message containing job information, your name and telephone number. We probably can help and will get back to you as quickly as practical. We furnish the labor at no cost to you; you furnish the cost of the parts.

Honeywell/Garrett Retirees’ Scholarship Program

Honeywell Scholarship

The applications are in and the award decisions have been made. Four applicants have been selected to receive $1000 scholarships, as the finalist in the 2014 Scholarship Program. The Scholarship Committee is in the process of notifying the students, checks will be mailed to the schools in May, and the funds deposited into each successful student’s school account. The Honeywell/Garrett Retiree’s Clubs and Honeywell Aerospace are proud to sponsor this effort to reward our children/grandchildren for their good studies and focus for the future. Look for more information about each of the 2014 Scholarship Program finalist in upcoming issues of The Bridge.

Don’t forget, each year, the Honeywell/Garrett Retiree’s Club, and Honeywell Aerospace, provides the opportunity for students to apply for one of several $1000 scholarships. These scholarships are open to students enrolled in any of the three State Universities, who have an active family member in the Honeywell (HRC), or Garrett (GRC), Retiree’s Club. Look for the details for applying for next year’s awards in the September issue of The Bridge.

Your Club contacts for this opportunity are for HRC, Dawn Orgill (602) 881-7772
For GRC, Frank Holman (602) 695-2565

Attention CLUB Members

Wednesday, May 7 at 2pm

Sponsored by Garrett

Tim Mahoney, President and CEO of Honeywell Aerospace will be presenting his talk on the health of Honeywell’s Aerospace segment Wednesday, May 7. Tim not only presents up-to-date business, project, and competition status, but provides very interesting insights to engineering/technology initiatives throughout Aerospace, including engines, avionics, power systems, etc. His presentations are always riveting and interesting.
All Arizona retirees are invited.

Here are the details:

Location: Scottsdale Senior Center, 1700 N Granite Reef Rd, Scottsdale, AZ

This meeting is FREE to all attending. The room holds up to 600 people, so there is plenty of room for all of us. There will be a snack bar, (which is supported by donations) … cookies, water, coffee, & soft drinks. If you decide to come, we suggest you arrive early and meet some folks from other clubs. “This most certainly should be a great day for all.”

We are looking forward to seeing and meeting members from Honeywell (HRC), Sperry (SRC) and Rim Country.
