PRESIDENT'S PERSPECTIVE

We had beautiful weather for the Spring Picnic at Saguaro Ranch. The food was excellent, and it was fun to visit with the 66 attendees. I want to thank Ike Templeton and his team for making all the arrangements.

Be sure to vote for next year's officers and directors. We look forward to seeing a large attendance at the annual meeting on April 23 at the Arrowhead Country Club. Our speaker is Tim Hogan, Executive Director of the AZ Center for law in the public interest.  He is the lawyer that has been doing all of the litigation for the English language requirement that is in the courts today.

It is with regret that we accept Lorri Jordan 's resignation from the board. We thank her for her many years of organizing events especially the Christmas dinner/dances and annual meetings. We are looking for a volunteer to serve as a Director on the Board for one year. Please contact me at 602.300.8304 or vmclagett@aol.com.

We are looking for volunteers to help with the committees. It is not an overpowering amount of work, and it is fun to work with the people you used to work with but in a more relaxed environment. Again, please contact me if you have some time to help.

Don't hesitate to contact any board member if you have suggestions on how the Honeywell Retiree Club can be of service to the retirees. Be sure to log into the Honeywell Retiree Club website www.hrcaz.org on a regular basis for updated information between the Bridge distributions. Until next month …

Best Regards,

Virginia

Aspirin fights cancer : Researchers followed over 22,000 women (55 or older) for 10 years and found that those who took aspirin at least once a week were 16% less likely to develop cancer. Theory : Aspirin inhibits an enzyme that promotes inflammation, which is believed to contribute to the development of cancer. Caution : Aspirin may cause gastrointestinal bleeding. Information from “Bottom Line/Health”, April, 2008. Research from Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota .

Vitamin C may curb arthritis of the knee: In a small study (293) men and women, those who had high levels of dietary vitamin C and ate the most fruit(any type) had fewer bone marrow lesions ( a marker for osteoarthritis). Theory : Antioxidants may boost bone mineral density. Information from “Bottom Line/Health”, April 08, Monash University, Melbourne , Australia .

Erectile dysfunction(ED) drug danger : Some patients using ED drugs, Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra have reported sudden hearing loss (temporary or permanent), sometimes with dizziness and ringing in the ears .
