Cola Drinks
| Before you pick up that cola drink, consider your bones. As published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, cola beverages can lower bone mineral density (BMD) in women, according to the Framingham Osteoporosis Study. BMD was measured in the spine and hips of 1,413 women | and 1,125 men. In women, the more cola they consumed, the lower the BMD in their hips: in men, cola had no effect. Non-cola carbonated beverages did not affect BMD. Cola contains caffeine and phosphoric acid, both of which may contribute to bone loss. |

Directions: From Route 101 in the west valley, go west on Thunderbird Road to the first light and turn right onto West Rio Vista Boulevard. Drive to the Rio Vista Park parking lot at the end of the road. There is ample and convenient parking. This is a brand new facility and the bathrooms are very conveniently located (no steps).
Unfortunately, there will be no Octoberfest traditional German music this year as the parks restricts music or charges an exorbitant fee. The food will be cooked for you by the HRC Board of Directors and will feature bratwurst and hamburgers with all the fixings and accompaniments. Water and coffee will be provided. You may bring your own beer or soft drinks if you would like, but no glass containers are allowed in the park. There will be door prizes.

Kitt Peak National Observatory (KPNO), part of the National Optical Astronomy Observatory (NOAO), supports the most diverse collection of astronomical observatories on Earth for nighttime optical and infrared astronomy and daytime study of the Sun. Founded in 1958, KPNO operates three major nighttime telescopes, shares site responsibilities with the National Solar Observatory and hosts the facilities of consortia which operate 19 optical telescopes and two radio telescopes. Kitt Peak is located 56 miles southwest of Tucson, AZ. Kitt Peak offers a public evening program like no other. It is home to the largest collection of optical research telescopes anywhere in the world, and at the Visitor Center with its two observatories, the public is invited to learn about, and gain hands-on experience of the latest that astronomy has to offer. We'll view everything from planets to other galaxies using our 20 inch RC Optical Systems and 16 inch Meade Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes.
The cost includes a meal of turkey sandwich or a vegetarian alternative. Those attending can arrive earlier in the day to tour the facility and daytime telescopes to maximize your visit. You are encouraged to dress warmly and wear comfortable walking shoes. The number of attendees is limited so be sure to sign up early.

The tour will not require any stair climbing and will be wheelchair accessible. To reserve your spot, call or email Joe Gonzales ASAP. The Team Store is located on the north side of Cardinal Stadium, between Gate 2 and the Cardinal Stadium Ticket Office. Take the Glendale Ave exit on the 101, drive east to 95th Ave and turn right. Drive ½ mile to Maryland and turn left. The stadium will now be on your right. Turn right into the first entrance for the parking lot. Look for the giant “2”. The team store is to the left. A security guard at the entrance will direct you.
