President's Perspective

May 2004, Volume 20, Number 9

Summer is almost upon us as we move into the month of May. High afternoon temperatures make walks, yard work, golf and other outdoor activities much more enjoyable in the early morning. For many, it is the time to think about leaving for all or part of the very hot summer we usually see here in Phoenix. As is usual for HRC, we will not be meeting or sending another Bridge issue until September. Your Board of Directors however, has planned a full slate of activities for the fall season. Please see the dates and details in this issue of The Bridge. Now is a good time to make your December 3, 2004 Holiday Party plans.

April was a great month for the HRC in that we had a very successful annual meeting at the Moon Valley Country Club. Beautiful piano music by Myrna Ginand welcomed the over 100 attendees as they greeted friends and prepared for the breakfast brunch. Bill Birtcil, Vice President of Communications and Community Relations, did an excellent job of telling us about the future plans of our Aerospace businesses with a very informative presentation about our product opportunities. Ed Frick organized the meeting and served as master of ceremonies. The By-Laws changes were approved and the nominated slate of candidates for office and the Board were elected. Welcome new board members Secretary Nancy Boyle and Directors Lorri Jordan and Ed Skutecki,

A very excellent golf outing at Arrowhead Country Club was enjoyed by a large group of male members and friends. (Sure would like to see some ladies out there having fun also.) Details and winners are listed on page 2.

You may notice some positive changes to The Bridge (printed version) format this month. A team working the issue of reduced publishing and mailing time has come up with some excellent changes described further on page 3. In addition to heading the above team, Ted Rees has spent sizable effort cleaning up the e-mail list and integrating it into the membership database to minimize errors. Thanks to those who have taken the time to update their on-line address. Wally Klovstad has developed a new membership application blank to improve our ability to enter membership data.

Considerable improvements have been made on the Honeywell Retiree Club web site. Russ Henzel and Bill Doyle have created and are improving the content and styling of the information that is readily available on www.hrcaz.org . Information on what is happening in the Valley of the Sun is being updated for you every week. Please take a look and let us know what you think of the content. If you are on the web, send us e-mail at hotline@hrcaz.org .

Let me review all the recent new Honeywell Retirees club activities: Sponsoring a cruise, a Holiday Party, a Program and Events committee, new Bridge format, faster Bridge delivery, the HRCAZ web site, e-mail communication, improved methodology for the membership list. Please join us all in participating in the exciting and innovative new things happening with the Honeywell Retirees Club. Please see The Calf Path and let's all avoid the temptation to “tread in the footsteps of that calf".
